Fire Suppression System Solution

Finding solutions for unique applications is something the Eldridge team most enjoys.  We recently helped a customer design a fire suppression system for a facility using a very different type of fan than found in standard applications.  The customer requirements of air flow into and out of the building in the event of a fire were solved with our uniquely designed ventilation system.

System Requirements

Our customer was redesigning an existing building for a flammable chemical storage warehouse.  New requirements called for a fire suppression system that would operate without electricity in the event of a fire.  The customer chose a high expansion foam generator which operates by spraying a liquid agent with airflow from fan blades that creates a foam to suppress the fire.  The ventilation system we were to design would need to provide sufficient supply and exhaust air without creating a large pressure drop that would inhibit the action of the foam generators.  In addition to providing adequate air flow, we would also need to position the supply and exhaust openings where they would remain unobstructed throughout a fire event.

System Solution

The Eldridge team put their heads together and designed a ventilation system that would not only meet the requirements but was also a value solution.  We recommended the customer use the hood structure from the Eldridge Hooded Roof Ventilator to protect the existing supply and exhaust openings on the roof of the building.  The low pressure drop of the hood structures satisfied the requirement for minimal air flow restriction while their positioning on the roof was the ideal location to remain unobstructed at critical times.

Providing Solutions

Needless to say, the customer is pleased with the safety provided by our newly designed system.  Eldridge was honored to be chosen to work on such an important project.  The knowledge base of our team and experience across diverse markets allows us to think outside the box.  We use this shared ability to design ventilation systems that not only function per the customer’s requirements but can also provide value solutions.  Call the Eldridge team when you have a fiery situation to contain and we will design a smoking solution for you!
